E-008-16 Franciscan St. James Health-Chicago Heights, Chicago Heights  Posted January 13, 2016 E-008-16 Franciscan St. James Health-Chicago Heights, Chicago Heights In accordance with the requirements of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Act, Notice is given of a receipt of an application (#E-008-16 - Franciscan St. James Health-Chicago Heights) to discontinue a three hundred twelve (312) bed acute care hospital located at 1423 Chicago Road, Chicago Heights, Illinois. The application was submitted by Franciscan Alliance, Inc., and Franciscan Alliance, Inc. d/b/a Franciscan St. James Health-Chicago Heights, 1615 Dragoon Trail, Mishawaka, Indiana. This exemption application for the discontinuation of an acute care hospital was declared complete on January 13, 2016. Consideration by the State Board has been tentatively scheduled for the March 29, 2016, State Board Meeting. Any person wanting to submit written comments on this project must submit these comments by March 9, 2016. The State Board will post its findings in a State Board Staff Report, and the report will be made available via the internet on March 15, 2016. The public may submit written responses in support of or in opposition to the findings of the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board. Franciscan St James Health Public Hearing

Franciscan St James Health intends to file plans with the state to seek approval for a major restructuring of services. St James is hosting a public hearing to inform residents in surrounding communities how the restructuring will affect those communities.

This is another opportunity for residents to find out the fate of St James Hospital if you were unable to attend the public hearing Mayor David Gonzalez held last month at the Steger Community Center.

Public Hearings into the Closure of St James Hospital

Sauk Village supports the creation of a "Health Services Task Force"

On Thursday, December 3, 2015, there was a meeting at Chicago Heights to discuss the creation of a task force as it relates to the proposed discontinued services at St James Hospital . State Reps , State Senators , School districts officials , social agencies and Clergy were in attendance including Sauk Village Police Chief Robert Kowalski.

Mayor Gonzalez and I have discussed the impact the closure of St James Hospital would have not only on Sauk Village but the surrounding South Suburban communities. We have been informed that Indiana Hospitals will not accept Illinois Medicaid patients . We are working to verify that information and will be most likely one of the issues the task force will be looking to confirm. 

If this is the case, you can understand the huge impact the closure would have on Sauk Village residents. Below is a link to an article that was published in the Chicago Sun-times following the initial meeting.
